We are offering trainings, workshops and professional cooperation based on the specific methodology of Integral Expression and Dance (IED) Therapy.
The Association has developed a method – and offers various programs along this – that is unique in Hungary, but also in Europe. Combining movement with other creative activities offers an opportunity to get to know ourselves better, to process challenging life events. The method of personal development is used by our trained specialists both in groups and during individual work. Our approach does not focus on the artistic, aesthetic quality of the creative processes and the movement, but on the spiritual, psychical process that goes with it. To do this, we mobilize all the senses, addressing the whole person through bodily experiences. Thus body, soul and thought are balanced. During our programs, it is possible to rework the given life situation primarily through communication (partly verbal but mainly non-verbal, through creation and movement) and relationship (connection between the group leader(s), the members of the group and the individual). The overall goal is to be able to live the life that you want.
IKTE (Integrált Kifejezés- és Táncterápiás Egyesület, i.e. Hungarian Association for Expressive Arts and Dance Therapy) is offering trainings, workshops and professional cooperation based on the specific methodology of Integral Expression and Dance (IED) Therapy. Our main goal is to train, develop and promote our integrative art therapy method. This approach belongs to expressive arts therapies.
The Association works with all age groups (youth, adults, seniors) on different levels. We run activities providing experience, self-development or therapy. We also train the method for helping professionals and organise short and long-term events to educate about our technique and practices.
We are a Hungarian nongovernmental, not for profit organisation established in 2011 as an organisation for public benefit. Financial and organisational stability are ensured via programmes we are running, donations, and grant applications. Prior to this for 11-years we operated as a training centre, so our trainer group has worked together for more than 20 years.
As we come from different helping professions our members use the method for different purposes, during various activities. The core of their work is connected to the goal of the organisation, namely promoting, training the method and using it for the well-being of different groups, individuals.

What is Integral Expression and Dance Therapy (IED)?
IED is a member of the family of approaches internationally known as expressive arts therapy (www.ieata.org).
The key feature of this complex, interdisciplinary approach is that it uses multimodal expressive arts processes for self-knowledge, inner growth, personal development, trauma work and other therapeutic goals. This feature derives from the idea that expression has a healing power and we all have access to different ways, modalities of expressions. The core of our work is movement and dance, but IED uses the integrating effect of other ways of expression, such as music making, visual expression and drama, ‘authentic movement’, imagination, poetry, personal symbols and rituals and so on. The method is process oriented and helps one to find their self-healing potentials, hidden resources, and thus to improve the quality of their life. The process of creation and its meaning for its creator is more important than the aesthetic value of the end-product. IED works in groups – while immersed in artistic activities, the participants encounter each other in a deep way. Working together, creating together, being together, feeling accepted and acknowledged. All this happens in a playful, joyful manner.
The members of the organisation are cooperating with youth groups, organisations based on invitation, personal connections and interest. Our professionals were involved in long-term projects, trainings, partnership building activities, creating publications and youth exchange activities. The projects and activities were aimed at youth groups, and youth workers (youth sector), adults, parents, educators of adults, helping professionals (adult sector) and 50+ senior unengaged citizens (senior sector). On these occasions we used our method as a non-formal educational and development tool for people with different levels of abilities. From educated and practising helping professionals to mentally and physically challenged youth we covered a broad spectrum. This is possible as our method is highly adaptable with needed professional care and training in it. Nor should it be forgotten that as we rely on non-verbal expression it can be used with individuals and groups lacking abilities or confidence in a certain language or having mental, physical limitations concerning verbalising.
Our members successfully realised two Lifelong Learning Programme, Grundtvig Adult Learners’ Workshop in Hungary, and an Erasmus+ KA2 project as applicant, furthermore, we participated as partners in more Erasmus+ partnerships and PBA.

‘More than Words’ aimed to improve the intercultural communication and training skills of educators, social and cultural workers, and others professionally involved with minority and migrant communities.
We developed a pan-European curriculum of intercultural training methods that can be applied to work with people whose knowledge of the host country’s language is limited or non—existent. This curriculum synthesises the experience of the project partners in different areas of training and creativity, such as theatre, body & movement, clown methodology and storytelling.
The main outcome of the project is a European training module, offering new approaches for both governmental and non-governmental agencies in responding to these highly significant challenges. (https://issuu.com/zsgk/docs/training_module_and_toolkit_eng_hu_pl_it_ge_fr_ara) Other intellectual outputs includes a synthesis of good practices (https://issuu.com/zsgk/docs/more_than_words_-_integrating_creativity_in_interc) , an online platform of intercultural training (https://motw.eu/), and a documentary film (https://vimeo.com/410717675) presenting the different stages of project implementation. All these outputs will be disseminated through local multiplier events, allowing user organisations to benefit from project findings and methodologies.

The strategic partnership’s aim was to share best practices between sectors and methods connected to art expressions. The project idea came from the experience that helping professionals face burn out on a regular basis, no matter their education, country of work. During the project we looked for ways and perspectives on how to empower colleagues to develop their entrepreneurship and related skills by using different artistic tools in individual and group work in order to face or prevent burn out. Doing so they can also be at better service to their target groups.
The project resulted in more publications summarising the research on the matter, combining theoretical and practical experiences, knowledge of the partners (https://issuu.com/zsgk/docs/emotion_in_the_mirror). We also developed a toolkit offering concrete techniques and activities to be used (https://issuu.com/zsgk/docs/the_artist_within_toolkit). Finally a set of cards and rules of how to play was developed to support personal development and reflection (https://issuu.com/zsgk/docs/the_artist_within_dixit_card_rules).
Parent-play – let’s play to become a more successful parent!
Workshop Reference number: 2012-1-HU1-GRU13-07134
Dates of the Workshop: 30/06/2013 – 07/07/2013
Venue: Hollókő, Hungary
The major topic of our workshop was to promote the participants in becoming a more successful parent by following the children’s development from the perspective of the development of playing.
During the 8-day-programme the participants were able to relive the most important stages of childhood, from the beginning of infancy through toddler-age up to the teenager years – via a series of games, creative arts activities and sharing experiences.
In the workshop we adopted the tools and working methods of Psychodynamic Dance Movement Therapy, Integral Expression and Dance Therapy, and Dynamic Sensory Integration Therapy. We moved, we danced, we painted and drew, we made music, we played different games etc. Verbal feedback rounds were an essential part of the workshop. Further methods used were: learning by doing, learning through playing, playing through learning, improvisation, communication.
We focused on a different age group each day through the characteristic, age-specific forms of play, in order to work with the parental attitude, skills, competences of the children belonging to that particular age group. Having an intercultural, European group allowed all to be inspired and find new tools as well.
It’s never too late! Reviving the hidden Artist within
Workshop Reference number: 2011-1-HU1-GRU13-04286
Dates of the Workshop: 30/06/2012 – 08/07/2012
Venue: Máriahalom, Hungary
The goal of our workshop was to help the participants (many of them works with youth, adults, being helping professionals, entrepreneurs) to find the way to their inner authentic being, and to find the expressive and learning modalities most suitable to them. To facilitate this process we used free, expressive movement and dance, and the tools of multimodal expressive arts therapy, in the framework of a humanistic, accepting, holding environment and a process-oriented approach.
Getting acquainted and experimenting with the different artistic modalities in a free and relaxed manner makes it easier to decide which ways of acquiring knowledge of the world, or of expressing ourselves suit us. It can help us find the appropriate learning techniques (e.g. visual, auditory, or kinaesthetic), or ways of recreation (reading, theatre, going to swim etc.). It can even lead to finding the ‘mother tongue’ we can use in conversation with ourselves (e.g. writing a diary, listening to music, meditating, or dancing etc.)
In this workshop we offered the participants psychological restoration, and we provided them with means to reach long-term recreation, deeper self-knowledge, personal growth, and increased psychological well being.
We are open and willing to cooperate with organisations and individuals interested in our method, looking for methodological innovation, willing to create a think-tank about relevant matters or preparing publications. Would you have any ideas, suggestions please contact us: info@ikte.hu
